Over 25 years ago the Jay family moved to the North to live, and 17 years ago we purchased our 10 acre property overlooking Lake Ngatu. Over the past seventeen years we have developed our lifestyle block into a beautiful array of mature gardens, orchard and paddock areas, and are virtually self-sufficient in our own produce. Jif the border-collie cross works the land with us, and welcomes all with her friendly demeanour - she could also give a guided tour of the property, so well does she know the day's routines of feeding and gardening! We run approximately 4 head of cattle, half a dozen hens and our prolific orchard produces avocados, citrus, macadamia nuts, persimon, feijoas and bananas to name but a few! Potatoes and kumara are also grown in season, with the popular gourmet "Maori potato" growing well in the fertile soil of the property. Diane supplies the local Organic vegetable store with our excess produce, with the full flavoured avocado and Maori potatoes a favourite of the store's customers. Things to See and Do: For those looking for exercise, borrow our kayaks and explore the Lake, or follow the Bushland Trust walking trail around the dune lakes. Bus tours to Cape Reinga via Ninety Mile Beach pass by daily at our gate, visit our local Winery or the Ancient Kauri Kingdom or take a half hour drive to view beautiful Doubtless Bay and visit the Carrington Golf Course and their Cafe or Restaurant. You could visit the township of Kaitaia, stroll around our gardens or simply relax by our pool ,and the nearest restaurant is only 3kms away. Fishing and Diving trips can be arranged, and please don't hesitate to ask for any information on the North, our local knowledge is at your disposal! |
